Movement School Promotes Kerri-Ann T. Thomas to CEO, plans for Atlanta expansion

Movement School CEO Staff LeadershipCharlotte, North Carolina – Movement School, a network of public, tuition-free charter schools based in Charlotte, NC, is proud to announce the promotion of Chief Academic Officer Kerri-Ann T. Thomas to CEO as the organization eyes Atlanta, Georgia for future schools.

Thomas was hired in 2020 as Chief Academic Officer after an impressive tenure with Achievement First. She brings extensive experience in educational leadership to the Movement School organization and has consistently led schools to remarkable achievements, including making history with the first turn-around school to gain the most growth by outperforming the district within one year.

The promotion comes as Movement School begins groundwork for aggressive expansion plans which include launching in a second city in 2023. Tim Hurley, Executive Director of the Movement Foundation said current planning includes opening a third elementary school in Charlotte by 2022, followed by a launch in Atlanta the year after.

“Bringing Kerri-Ann into this new role for Movement Schools will catapult our academic performance and organizational quality to exciting new levels as well as prepare us for tremendous growth,” said Hurley.  “Not only does she bring outstanding credentials to our growing network, she is a phenomenal staff development coach. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Thomas received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia and her Master’s Degree in Education from Columbia University. At Achievement First, Thomas rose from elementary teacher to dean/assistant principal, principal and superintendent. She has led large teams of educators as well as coached school principals and leaders within her region and beyond.
